Objective
The purpose for a project like this was to save power and money on electricity bills during the summers from air conditioning. The fan might not be air conditioned but the flow of air and pure convection should be sufficient to replace the need to turn on the air conditioner. To further reduce power consumption, my goal was to find a way to turn off the fan after some time of use.
Responsibility
The fan has a control panel with a button, switch, and knob. The button activates the 5 minute delay-off timer circuit and latches on to power for 5 minutes, after which it will shut off. The switch is to use the fan without a timer and will turn on the fan indefinitely. The knob has three settings for three different speed settings for the fan. The whole fan is powered by 2 USB cables and can be plugged into an adapter to be plugged into a wall socket, or it can be plugged into a portable battery bank for portability.
Results
The fan works great. Provides enough air to fall asleep to without having to worry about wasting too much power from keeping it on. Due to the limited and low current draw, the motor heating up is not an issue.
